Men aged 18-64 years had arthritis symptoms 29.9% of the time, women in the same age group (18-64 years) had 31.2%. When the age group was changed to 65 years and older, men were found to have symptoms 55.8% of the time compared to women having it 68.7% of the time. Overall, these researchers believe that the prevalence of arthritis could be 68% higher than previously thought, and concluded their article by saying, "Arthritis prevalence in the US population has been substantially underestimated, especially among adults <65 years."
