Bent Knee Hip Extension

This exercise is often used to isolate the buttock musculature.  Bending the knee puts the muscles on the back of the thigh on slack and increases the demand on your buttock.  Bending the knee also increases the stretch to the muscles on the front of the thigh to ensure they stay flexible.  People who spend long periods sitting tend to have decreased buttock muscle strength which may lead to lower extremity pain and injury.  Furthermore, older individuals often have extreme tightness on the front of their hips and thighs which may lead to a hunched over standing and walking postures.
